Sounds good....

Sound playback through the headphones is always a subjective issue, and the XFX Gear Gaming Headset’s sound quality is comparable with most mid-price range headset on the market. I’ve still yet to experience anything to compare with my Sennheisers, but then those are top of the line headphones. Bass response on the XFX Gear Gaming Headset, always a good benchmark with headphones due to the small speakers involved, is very good with nice rumbles on the low end with distortion only creeping in once the volume is turned up high. Higher frequencies again are good, with nice clear top end sounds in both games and music.

Given that this isn’t a surround headset, you’ll have to rely on your soundcard emulating sound placement and to that end a decent set of speakers in the headphones are essential. The XFX Gear Gaming Headset’s speakers do the job nicely, and as with all other headsets of this type, the full ear enclosure helps with positional audio immensely compared to ‘on the ear’ headphones such as the Sidewinder Gamevoice headset. That said, the ear enclosure do duffer from one problem. The actual enclosures just weren’t big enough for my ears. Though it wasn’t hugely uncomfortable, I did find myself tucking the bottom of my earlobes in a bit to get what felt like a snug fit all round… Of course, you can argue that I’ve got ears like Prince Charles, but I have to say that although the headphones look good with those round casings, they’re not as practical as they could be had XFX opted for a more elongated oval shape for them.
