The 3.30 at Kempton

At the start of each mission, you get to choose from a wide variety of weaponry to take into the mission with you. There’s loads of different handguns, from the simple pistol though to submachine guns and one handed shotguns. There’s assault rifles, commando rifles or Sniper rifles for your main weapon. On top of that you can carry a heavy weapon such as a rocket launcher or gatling gun too. And if that weren’t enough, you can also carry two different types of grenade as well… so you’ll enter a fight tooled up enough to take on most small armies without breaking a sweat.

With the game still in an early beta, info on the weapons is pretty sparse, but rest assured, there’s a simply massive variety to choose from and most of the more expensive weapons have a secondary fire function too. For example, the bog standard pistol section has four different guns to decide between, or how about the four different commando rifles, three different miniguns, three types of smoke/shock grenade…and we haven’t even started on the armour and shields yet either… or the fact that you can hire a couple of mercenaries to come and help you out too.

All of this costs you money though and this is central to the game itself. When you’re in battle you receive cash for every enemy you kill. You get cash bonuses for knocking them off in style too, so headshots are the order of the day… or toss a frag grenade into a crowded tunnel to take down three at once. The more you kill, the more cash you get, the more cash you have at the end, the better weapons you’ll be able to buy for the next fight and so on.

The big money is to be made fighting the other elite soldiers though, and this is where tactics play a part. When you reach the area where the enemy elite is waiting, you’re sidekicks stand off leaving you to go mano-a-mano with your chosen adversary. And to keep the pressure on, you’ve got one minute to kill him or you lose. Yep, it doesn’t matter if you’re both still standing at the end of the minute, you lose if he isn’t dead. Of course, you could pick yourself an easy opponent, but then you mght find yourself a bit cash strapped later on in the game, so it’s worth taking the chance and going for the tougher guys because you’ll earn big money for a proportionately smaller outlay if you win… decisions, decisions…
