Battleground Europe - public beta

GMX Media and Cornered Rat Software have announced a public beta and stress test for their upcoming release of Battleground Europe. Beginning at 1200CT (US) on Thursday, August 25th, 2005 account creation forms will be made available on the official website for test accounts. Players will receive instructions on how to download the pre-release client and information on where to submit error reports. Space will be limited for the test which will run from Thursday, August 25th through Sunday August 28th.

Battleground Europe is a PvP MMOG set in a vast 3D environment. Players command and crew a variety of accurately modelled vehicles, naval vessels and aircraft or fight as foot soldiers with and against thousands of other players. Think along the lines of Battlefield 1942 but with a massive persistent game world.

GMX and Cornered Rat claim Battleground Europe will support thousands of players all sharing a single world with a first person perspective in all the game play. The world looks pretty huge measuring more than 350,000 square miles according to RC.

There’s a hint of RPG elements in here too with character advancement and career paths and the strategic systems will driven by player missions and commands. There’s a growing list of 90+ historically accurate weapons including aircraft, tanks, anti-aircraft guns, trucks, rifles and machine guns and Cornered Rat are also claiming a groundbreaking physics and damage modelling engine.
