Ever wondered why you're always staring at a fish when you first install the Windows 7 Beta or Release Candidate?

Well, it's really quite simple - that particular fish is the Siamese Fighting Fish, a species that's native to Thailand and often goes by the name of Betta Fish, or simple Betta. Get it?

Anyway, the unusual mascot appears to have had its moment in the limelight as Microsoft's latest Windows 7 build - #7232 - features what could be the final default wallpaper for the upcoming operating system.

With Windows 7's feature list essentially clamped down, we're seeing little-to-no change between builds, and Microsoft looks to be ploughing forward on the road to its October 22nd launch.

As for the wallpaper, it's nice, but we'd love to a smaller Windows flag - or, better yet, a version of the wallpaper with no flag at all. Either way, it looks as though a RTM isn't far.

We want fish, we want fishhhhhh
I liked the background you get on the shutting down screen.. but can't find it as an option. Kinda like the background in the article, but a little lighter, without the massive logo.
Keep the fish!!
cheesemp
Keep the fish!!

Wonder if we can ge the EU involved? Demand that Win 7 ships with fish
surely us Beta people can just save the background and use it later? :P
