The news

Brainless drink-drivers over the Christmas period may try to trot out a new excuse in court - "I thought I'd Dinked enough".

Dink - newly available and described as a "unique 'rescue remedy' formula" - consists of tablets (capsules, actually) that you take before and after drinking. It's intended to "mitigate the damage that binge drinking causes".

We're doubtful, though, whether it will help those hospitalised as a result of drunken driving.

The FAQ page on the Dink web site does clearly state that the capsule don't make it safe to drink and drive but, in truth, that's all that is made clear, apart from the fact that Dink doesn't stop you getting pissed, shouldn't be taken by diabetics and makes your turds look even more unpleasant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does Dink stop me getting inebriated?
A: NO. Dink does not stop the mood-altering effects of alcohol.

Q: Does Dink allow me to drink and drive?
A: NO! Taking Dink does not allow you to drink and drive. You blood alcohol level could still be high the next morning even if you feel fine.

Q: What are the undesirable effects of Dink?
A: The carbon in the red capsules may make your stools darker. If you are still concerned about the colour of your stools, please consult your pharmacist or doctor. There are no other known side effects.

Q: What precautions should I take before taking Dink?
A: Take Dink with caution if you are diabetic as it contains dextrose.

Q: Can I take medicine and Dink?
A: Alcohol competes with some types of medication for breakdown in the liver and enhances the action of the medication. Some antibiotics will make you very ill if alcohol is taken at the same time. Always check with your pharmacist for interactions.

But to find out if we're missing the point, have a browse of the Dink web site and check out the press release on page two. The release claims - quite contrary to how we read things - that Dink will be "Changing the Nation's drinking habits".

To us, the bottom line seems to be - taking Dink doesn't stop you getting rat-arsed but might possibly mean you feel less unwell during and afterwards. So, if Dink does change our drinking habits, all it will be doing is enabling us to drink even more!

Naturally, we're keen to hear your take on Dink. So, once you're sober, dive over and comment in this thread in the HEXUS.lifestyle forum.

But don't expect to win any Brownie points for saying, "I'll drink to that!".
