PRESS RELEASE

BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, Demand 5 and 4oD now all available only on Samsung's Smart TVs

London, UK, 13th June, 2013 - Catching up on all your favourite television shows has never been easier thanks to Samsung Electronics Co. UK Ltd, which today became the only television manufacturer to offer viewers the best range of major catch-up services on a television set.  The offering comes through its acclaimed Smart TV platform, which now hosts BBC iPlayer, Demand 5, 4oD and, exclusive to Samsung, ITV Player.  With ten percent of UK television viewing now time-shifted1, the development ensures viewers can now catch up on the best programming, when they want, on the screen it was made for - the television.

As the only platform to offer the top four on-demand services, Samsung Smart TV is setting the agenda for the future of smart content and interaction on televisions.  With app partners, such as the BBC now creating programming specifically for their on-demand services, Samsung TV viewers will be able to enjoy these most talked about programmes on the big screen whilst benefiting from smart functions that will enhance their experience of those shows.

For example, Smart TV viewers will enjoy Samsung's S Recommendation which suggests what's new to watch based on what you like.  It intelligently learns your preferences, responds to your voice and instantly searches live TV, video on-demand services and apps to recommend content tailored to your tastes.

Guy Kinnell, Head of TV and AV at Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland, commented on the changing viewing habits in the UK: "According to our report ‘Samsung Futures: The Future of Smart TV', people now spend an average of 2.7 hours a day watching TV1. We know that more and more people are using catch up services, so demand for our full catch up offering will be high.  We've also seen content providers such as the BBC meeting this trend by commissioning original dramas for BBC iPlayer while the ‘House of Cards' has been streamed exclusively for Netflix subscribers.

With this groundbreaking development from Samsung Smart TV's all the on demand services are in one place. Those catching up on their favourite shows on their Samsung televisions will also be immersed in the award winning picture quality2. Gone are the days of juggling multiple devices; viewers can enjoy their favourite programmes on the best screen in the house, whenever they want to."

The catch up services have joined an expanding collection of entertainment portals available on Samsung Smart TVs such as Netflix, LOVEFiLM, Spotify, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, giving viewers an unparalleled choice of content and services. ‘Samsung Apps' is the first and biggest App store available for TVs, with over 20 million Apps already downloaded worldwide, proof that consumers are rapidly embracing Smart TV.

BBC iPlayer, 4oD, ITV Player and Demand 5 are all available on all 2011, 2012 and 2013 Samsung Smart TV models.
