Another fix

Research In Motion (RIM), the company behind the addictive BlackBerry push email devices, has announced deals with HP and Cisco with the aim of connecting business users more intimately with the cloud at its Wireless Enterprise Symposium in Florida.

The HP deal is being positioned as an alliance and seems to mainly concern HP's software arm. Its stated aim is to: "deliver a portfolio of solutions for business mobility on the BlackBerry platform."

These include HP CloudPrint, which allows BlackBerry users to wirelessly send documents, photos, etc to printers. This is a web-based service that doesn't require additional drivers and can work on any printer, apparently. There's also ‘HP Operations Manager for BlackBerry Enterprise Server' and ‘Managed BlackBerry Services' - part of ‘EDS Mobile Workplace Services'.

"RIM and HP are working together to deliver solutions to customers that weave mobility into their daily operations - from innovative new services in the cloud to managed mobile services for the enterprise," said Jim Balsillie, co-CEO of RIM.

At the same event, RIM announced a new version of its Mobile Voice System (MVS) Server for Cisco Unified Communications Manager. This indicates a favouring of Cisco over Microsoft in the growing field of unified communications.
