What a joke

A bloke who was fined and convicted for posting an insensitive ‘joke' on Twitter threatening to blow up an airport has vowed to take his case to the High Court in a bid to clear his name.

Paul Chambers was convicted back in May for sending a ‘menacing communication' on the micro blogging site and has since enjoyed considerable support from fellow Twitter users, especially after he recently failed to overturn his conviction, the BBC reported.

Taking his case to the next level, the 27 year-old accountant will reportedly be represented by formidable human rights lawyer Ben Emmerson who will focus on whether section 127 of the Communications Act was ‘appropriately applied' in Chambers' case.

However the clock is ticking for the misguided comedian as he only has until 2 December to challenge his conviction, which his lawyer reportedly believes is a ‘test case' as it was the first time that part of the law was applied to a social network problem.

David Allen Green, Chambers' solicitor told the Beeb: "We want to establish what constitutes a menacing communication, what should be the level of intent required for the offence to be committed, and whether or not Paul's message was sent by means of a public electronic communications network."

After Doncaster Crown Court upheld the decision to convict Chambers, thousands of miffed Tweeple reportedly re-tweeted Chambers' ill-considered outburst of: "Crap! Robin Hood airport is closed. You've got a week to get your shit together, otherwise I'm blowing the airport sky high!"
