Companies always enjoy claiming that they are bringing-to-market a world first. ADATA goes one better today however by announcing, the launch of its S596 Turbo SSD - apparently, the first JMF616 powered solution on Earth.

In the midst of a flurry of SandForce fuelled solutions launched over the past few months, ADATA's S596 Turbo features the adoption of JMicron's JMF616 controller - delivering read speeds up-to 260MB/s and write speeds up-to 210MB/s. Whilst the company hasn't detailed theoretical speeds across its new family, it suggests that the harnessing of the JMF616 controller lends its hand to a 20% performance increase, when compared to the S596 Turbo's predecessor.

Emphasising the increased stability that the newest controller from JMicron adds to the equation, ADATA enthuses that its S596 Turbo supports static wear-levelling technology, together with the implementation of TRIM support for Windows 7 users.

Aesthetically, the S596 Turbo is housed in a brushed aluminium chassis that perfects the company's desire to convey a sense of "elegant demeanour". Improved heat-dissipation properties are also touted, together with support for either internal (SATA II) laptop or external (mini-USB) storage use. Desktop PC users are not left out in the cold, as a 3.5in converter will thoughtfully add desktop PC mounting support too, if you so choose.

Targeted at as many different market segments as possible, the S596 Turbo will be available in capacities ranging from 32GB, up-to 256GB. Wrapped up with a 3-year warranty, availability and pricing information was not available at the time of going to press.

What planet came first then?

They're just hedging their bets in case there's an intelligent civilization around the other side of the galaxy that JMicron hooked up with in secret ;)
