Solid-state drives equipped with SandForce controllers are coming thick and fast, and Californian manufacturer Patriot Memory is today arriving on the scene with the launch of its Inferno drives.

Equipped with a SandForce SF-1222 controller, the 2.5in drives - available in 100GB or 200GB capacities - offer increasingly-familiar read and write speeds of up to 285MB/s and 275MB/s, respectively.

Making use of SandForce DuraClass technology, the Inferno series comes equipped with wear-leveling algorithms designed to ensure endurance and reliability, and Patriot backs the drives with a generous five-year warranty.

Both the 100GB and 200GB models will come bundled with a 2.5in-to-3.5in mount for easy installation in just about any chassis, and early pricing appears to be keen. US retailer Newegg.com currently has the 100GB Inferno available for $369 (roughly £250 + VAT), whilst the larger 200GB model fetches $679 (roughly £470 + VAT). Putting the numbers into perspective, Patriot's drives - from Newegg, at least - work out between $40 and $70 cheaper than the same capacity OCZ Vertex 2 alternatives.
