Angry Birds is set to makes its debut on Facebook in April with a collaborative version of the popular app game in the pipeline.
From its humble beginnings as an iPhone app, Angry Birds is set to make the leap onto Facebook just before the animated film about the gaming characters, called Rio, hits big screens in April.
Mikael Hed, CEO of the Finnish developer, Rovio, which created the game confirmed the planned month of launch and revealed that the pig characters will play ‘a more prominent role,' according to the new issue of Wired, via The Drum.
So far, over 1.2m fans of the game have reportedly ‘liked' a Facebook page, hinting at the new iteration of the game's almost certain success.
Apparently the Facebook edition of Angry Birds will not just be a port of the current app version, but be tweaked with ‘collaborative' features for the social network plus 'completely new aspects to it that just haven't been experienced in any other platform,' according to Wired via Metro.
Spin-offs including a driving and sports game are reportedly in the pipeline and it has been confirmed that Angry Birds is also set to crash into Xbox Live Arcade and WiiWare. It will also make its debut on Microsoft's WP7 mobile platform.
Rovio's ‘mighty eagle' Peter Vesterbacka has reportedly revealed that the firm has set its sights on becoming ‘Disney 2.0'
He reportedly said: "Look at how Disney got started. Steamboat Willie created Mickey Mouse, then they added more characters. You can see the same pattern today, but everything is happening much, much faster. Other brands used to build recognition over the course of decades. We've done it in one year."
While theme parks, Oscar-winning films and chain of its own shops might be a way off for Rovio, the firm has just announced its free Android app has reached the 30m download milestone, according to T3.
Interestingly, Vesterbacka reportedly said that 80 percent of people that have downloaded the app have also downloaded updates.
