Pastel jackets, Testarossas and alligators on yachts...

HEXUS.E3 Over at Vivendi’s booth we tested out Rebellion's Miami Vice The Game which will be exclusively available on PSP this July.

The game is due to coincide with the release of the film and sees you undercover as flamboyant narcotic officers, Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs. The game is set in present day Miami and, for the 10 minutes or so that we played the game, accurately captured the beauty and vibrancy of this Florida resort - you can almost feel the hot sunshine radiating from the PSP! The dialogue and cinematics of the game change based on which character you choose, and the game begins with choosing your hero and dressing them 'up to the nines'. You'll have the opportunity to dress your character before each mission - take the bullet proof vest, it comes in handy!

Miami Vice The Game concentrates on events leading up to the film. You'll need to infiltrate an organisation, run by a South American drug baron, by choosing one of the game's two heroes and building your reputation within the drug World. You'll achieve this by trading in drugs, interacting with the drug barons - through dialogue-driven interactive cut-scenes, and aggressively chasing criminals around the sun-drenched streets of Miami.

On first glance the game is a third person shooter with some impressive weapons, but the reputation system throws something new into the equation. By enhancing your reputation you'll get closer and closer to catching the main villain. You'll also be hacking for sensitive information and the game boasts approximately 30 hacking mini games which increase in difficulty and earn you upgrades.

Visually the game sits at the top end of PSP graphics, the superb light shading techniques create stunning silouhettes across buildings and the intricate details of the character

Games based on movies are often disappointing, but Miami Vice The Game was an absorbing experience which strays away from the convential shoot em ups by introducing these different elements of gameplay - it's definately one to watch
