Introduction

Another day and another GeForce 7950 GT 512MiB graphics card. If we didn't know any better, and perhaps we don't ;), I'd be inclined to think that NVIDIA's AIB partners were looking to draw attention to and shift as many current high-end DX9 7-series graphics cards as possible before DX10 SKUs become pervasive.

That's why, dear reader, we've seen a number of G71s pass through the labs in past couple of weeks. Some have been boring and clocked in at reference speeds. Some have had huge coolers strapped on top of them and one, XFX's Extreme, has been overclocked and passively cooled, which makes the most interesting thus far.

XFX is back at it and sent word of another souped-up version dubbed - wait for it - the XFX GeForce 7950 GT XXX Edition 512MiB. Promising much higher clocks than even its Extreme stablemate and yet still being passively cooled, our interest was piqued. Read on to find out what we thought.
