If it's not resolution that's being pushed to new limits, it's monitor size. LG has announced a new LCD monitor that's absolutely massive. Its size roughly equates to the area of seaside town, Bridlington, although on paper this reads as 55" diagonally.

The M5500C, which is geared towards public display uses, has a resolution of 1920x1080 (1080p, anyone?) and a contrast ratio of 550:1. The monitor also features an ambient light sensor which allows the screen brightness to be dynamically adjusted to suit the environment. The response time of this beast is also good, weighing in at 10ms.

While its large viewing angle (170 degrees) and large price tag (Ā£7.5k) line it up as a public display device, we expect it won't be long before we find somebody boasting about their dual M5500C configuration, or perhaps how good the thing looks in their front room, hung above the XBox 360.
