LG Electronics has launched the 55inch M5500C LCD Monitor with a massive native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels that are true 1080P Progressive Scan to deliver the ultimate in picture quality.

This is the largest LCD in mass production and its long list of features means that it can be used in a range of environments. The DVI and VGA connectors allow you to use the M5500C as a PC monitor both for watching movies and for delivering presentations, and the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) feature guarantees that the M5500C will be compatible not only with today's Operating Systems (Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Media Center Edition) but also with future software such as Microsoft Windows Vista, as well as HDTV sources.

The LG M5500C is ideal for use as a public display screen, with its contrast ratio of 550:1 and a luminance rating of 500 candelas per square metre which combine to ensure that the picture is bright, sharp and clear at all times. In addition the M5500C has an ambient light sensor to ensure that the picture is displayed at the optimal brightness, which will be a real benefit if the screen is used for digital signage in a bright location such as a petrol station or shopping centre. It has wall and arm mountings that are compliant with the VESA 800x400 standard, and also has RS232 In and Out ports which make the screen simple to configure.

The fast response time of 10ms guarantees that the picture won't be smeared or blurred, which is a technical triumph for LG as some display technologies scale up poorly. The result can be that a larger screen is technically inferior to its smaller counterparts in the same product range but in the case of the M5500C the picture quality is exemplary.

If you're using the M5500C to show TV, DVD or HDTV in a public area the wide viewing angle of 176 degrees will really come into its own with a large audience, and they will also appreciate the warmth and realism of the picture which is displayed with a palette of 16.7 million colours. The M5500C has two sets of component connectors, S-Video, Composite Video as well as DVI with HDCP which means that it is ready for the next generation of High Definition DVD players.
