Racing towards Christmas

With the advent of the Christmas season upon us, Asus threw an event to show off a plethora of products it hopes punters will want to stuff their stockings with. Ranging from bigger, more businesslike offerings, right down to Disney Eee PCs and Ion powered Eee boxes, Asus' range ran the gamut.

The firm's UL series, featuring Intel's Core 2 Duo CULV Processor - in HD widescreen display flavours of either 13.3" or 15.6" - was on prominent display and aimed squarely at the business user. Boasting Microsoft's new Windows 7 operating system, Altec Lansing HD speakers, and up to 500GB of storage, Asus was also boasting its £599 - £799 ultra slim lappies also packed a whopping 12 hours of battery life.

For those more into fast cars than spreadsheets, Asus was also showing off its rather flashy ASUS-Lamborghini VX5, boasting no less than an Intel Core 2 Quad Processor, 4GB memory and dual 500GB hard disks (for a total of 1TB). The 16" HD LCD display is framed by what Asus claims to be the "World's first ceramic glossy touchpad and genuine leather palm rest" sporting an Auto Focus 2.0M pixel web camera with a sapphire crystal lens.

The racy machine - available in Ivory or black chrome - also has NVIDIA's GeForce GT 130M, Intel wireless Wi-Fi Link 5100 A/B/G/N, Bluetooth 2.1 capabilities, a Blu-ray combo drive, four USB ports and 8-in-1 card reader, HDMI, E-SATA and IEEE1394 firewire ports.

Asus says the mesh, chrome, ceramic and leather machine even roars like its name-sake on start-up. Although at a price tag of £2,000, one should well hope it comes with just as many bells and whistles as Santa's sleigh itself.
