If you thought Sapphire was done when it launched its holy trinity of Radeon HD 4890s, you were wrong.

Today, it's adding to its ever-growing line of Radeon HD 4890-based cards with the introduction of the Sapphire HD 4890 Vapor-X 2GB. As the name suggests, it's the Vapor-X card we've seen before, only now with twice the quantity of GDDR5 memory - making it the first Radeon HD 4890 armed with a 2GB frame buffer.

The card, pictured above, features Sapphire's custom Vapor-X cooler. We've tested other Sapphire cards with near-identical Vapor-X cooling in the past and found that it beats the pants off reference models, we don't envisage the HD 4890 being any different.

Out the box, the card's GPU is clocked at 890MHz and its 2GB of memory will run along at an effective 4,200MHz. Overkill for most? Perhaps, but it'll be useful if you're gaming at uber-high resolutions or if you're using the card for workstation purposes.

No mention of pricing yet, but we'd expect the card to appear at retail in the very near future.

Why the VGA port? :|

They'd have been better off with 2xDVI's and throwing in a dongle.
Bit odd. Still, is that a HDMI port next to the VGA port? If it is, then it's not a big deal then - for they'll probably throw a HDMI/DVI converter for those who needs it.

Yeah agree'd, would of thought most people are off of VGA ports these days..

By no means - my office PC stills runs onto a 17“ CRT which I am reluctant to change, so I'll be using VGA for quite some time… (tbh I'd upgrade to a 21” CRT if I could find one…)
Does your office machine need an HD4890 though?
