AMD launched its FirePro brand a little over a month ago with a pair of low-to-mid-range cards for the professional 3D graphics market; the ATI FirePro V5700 and ATI FirePro V3700.

Today, the California-based manufacturer is expanding its FirePro range with the introduction of the entry-level ATI FirePro V3750 and high-end ATI FirePro V8700.

The ATI FirePro V8700 - the most powerful FirePro offering to date - takes advantage of the RV770 architecture found in AMD's Radeon HD 4870. Users will find the same 800 stream processors and 1GB of super-quick GDDR5, but the FirePro V8700 has been refined for those who work with shader-intensive applications. The card offers a 30-bit display pipeline for accurate colour reproduction, and AMD promises a 40 per cent performance boost over its older ATI FireGL V7700.

AMD's second FirePro addition, the ATI FirePro V3750, is an entry-level solution that boasts a 40 per cent boost in CAD applications over previous generation cards. It offers 256MB of frame-buffer memory and 320 stream processors.

Both cards feature dual-link DVI, and two DisplayPort connections - a combination becoming increasingly common on AMD's graphics products.

Janet Matsuda, senior director of AMD Professional Graphics, said:

Creative professionals requiring realistic lighting and shading of complex models and objects will see the difference with the powerful ATI FirePro V8700 graphics accelerator. These new product offerings are in keeping with what the ATI FirePro brand represents: delivering performance and features that matter to discerning engineers and designers.

The ATI FirePro V8700 and ATI FirePro V3750 are expected to ship in Q4 at an MSRP of Ā£1,499 and $199, respectively.
