Introduction

ABIT Fatal1ty AN8 S939 Motherboard

As you may know if you're an avid HEXUS reader, I recently took a look at ABIT's Fatal1ty AA8XE LGA775 motherboard. To summarise a 12-page review in succinct fashion, I found it to be one of the best-performing LGA775's out there, and one of the very best with respect to overclocking. But, and it's a big but, the gaming performance crown has belonged to AMD's S939 CPUs for a while now. Their default performance firmly puts all but Pentium 4 Extreme Editions in the shade, and the newest iteration of cores, Venice and San Diego, offer frequency headroom that wows the enthusiast with that much greater appeal.

The Fatal1ty line, then, makes more sense for S939, although ABIT will never openly castigate LGA775's performance. The ultimate gamers' board, from an AMD point of view, would be one that gave the user a myriad of tweaking options and focussed on cooling and overall performance design enough to tempt the those sitting on the gaming fence. Could the Fatal1ty AN8 be that board? ABIT hopes so, but do we....?
