NVIDIA has just announced a new professional graphics-card for powering multiple displays in mission-critical environments.

The NVS 300 is designed to be ultimately flexible, simplifying IT administration and allowing the card to be used in a wide range of scenarios. The low-profile, single-slot design will mean that the card will fit in almost any kind of chassis and the passive cooler's lack of moving parts should help with the cards reliability. It'll also be available with either a PCIe x16 or PCIe x1 interface, again improving compatibility.

The manufacturer claims that this reliability will make the card an excellent choice for mission critical environments, including control centres, trading floors and the slightly less critical digital signs.

The card is also designed with efficiency in mind, and draws a maximum of 17.5W - almost 25 per cent less than the previous generation NVS 295.

Although you'll need several cards and a whole mess of breakout cables, the card is capable of supporting up to eight monitors and can connect over DisplayPort, DVI, VGA or HDMI.

The NVS 300 will also ship with NVIDIA's nView desktop management software and make use of Mosaic technology, which will enable a multitude of different display configurations. This includes dividing monitors into work groups, spanning applications across different screen or creating a single large desktop spread over all eight displays.

Obviously 3D performance isn't this cards forte, but for enterprise users in need of a flexible graphics card, the NVS 300 will be available soon from OEMs or authorised distributors for $149 (£117 inc VAT).

want + 8 x 30" Dells. I buy the card and hexus buys me the monitors? Sounds like a good deal to me!
Looks useful. I approve ;)

You know, that functionality sounds kind of familiar, but I just can't think where I've heard of it before…? ;)

Also, I see the article says you'll need multiple cards to run an 8 monitor set up - so how many monitors can each individual card power?

That's a great question, and despite looking through the NVIDIA PR and the NVS 300 website, I couldn't find out (thus why it doesn't say in the article).

I think only 2, because the dongles/break-out cables only have two connectors each. However, you might be able to daisy chain the DP monitors, so maybe it can do 4 per card.
The information in the article is wrong I think. The card can support 2 monitors only.

How the hell do you get 8 ?
