Asus ROG has announced the Strix XG27VQ 27-inch gaming monitor. This new monitor is the first in an all new XG series from Asus ROG - "gaming monitors designed especially for professional gamers". Headline qualities of this 1800R curved Full HD monitor are; the maximum refresh rate of 144Hz, Asus-exclusive Extreme Low Motion Blur tech, plus Adaptive-Sync (FreeSync). We first saw the Asus ROG Strix XG27VQ at Computex a couple of months back. At that time it was listed alongside a similar 32-inch 2K WQHD curved monitor with a 21:9 aspect ratio, the ROG Strix XG32VQ.

The Asus ROG Strix XG27VQ is said to feature "gorgeous aesthetics," but of course you will decide about that for yourselves from the product photos. It’s a gaming inspired design which features the now familiar 'Mayan' etchings on some surfaces, plus Asus Aura RGB lighting zones round the back and projecting under the base. Asus supplies three silhouette projection stencils; two Asus Rog logo designs, and a blank for you to customise.

That's enough about the monitor's cosmetic fripperies; now let's look at the hardware specs, and what better way to do that than via the official specs table?

The specs sent to me in email don't include the panel type. However, the official product page specs inform us that this monitor uses a VA panel which some consider to be a good compromise between TN and IPS, depending upon usage scenario. Other considerations not touched upon in the outline specs above are the 'super narrow bezels', which help if you want to create a multi-monitor setup, for example.

In addition to the gaming modes listed in the specs the Asus DisplayWidget software offers a configurable blue light filter for long term viewing eye comfort. The software features are replicated by the built-in monitor OSD with navigational joystick, but its quicker to use the software on your PC.

In its email to HEXUS, Asus said that the ROG Strix XG27VQ will become available from 4th September onwards. The RRP is £409.99 including VAT. I notice that Scan already has it up for pre-order with a slight discount to that price (due in stock on 11th Sept).

1080p…..
But……in the dawn of the 4K age…..why on earth is it 1080p?

Not even QHD?
Why also, at the mega mega prices of some of these (friend bought whatever the most recent widescreen 40"-ish über-ROG monitor is), do they only have a red LED thing on the base? Surely it should all be RGB, even if it is a ROG product? Their motherboards have it…

If I'm paying that kind of money, I'd want all the features…
400 notes for 1080p and some naff rgb, yeah do 1
Not for that price and especially not for 1080p
