You might not associate Sapphire Technologies with motherboards but this close AMD partner has quite a comprehensive roster of embedded products including motherboards, graphics boards, barebones, and even micro servers. Now Sapphire has launched a new motherboard range that comes packing your choice from four AMD Ryzen Embedded V1000 series APUs.

The new Sapphire FS-FP5V is aimed at embedded but visually demanding tasks as might be required for electronic gaming machines, medical imaging, interactive digital signage, thin clients, POS terminals and similar. The FS-FP5V is said to have enough visual power to support four 4K displays.

According to Tom's Hardware, the FS-FP5V can be configured with any one of the four AMD Ryzen Embedded V1000 APUs currently available from AMD. This gives buyers a wide choice of CPU and GPU power and TDPs.

As well as the capable AMD APU, the Sapphire FS-FP5V board has the following key specifications:

  • Support for up to 32GB DDR4-3200 RAM via two So-DIMM slots
  • A SATA3 port for fixed storage
  • Two M.2 slots; one for PCI-Express 3.0 x4 or SATA storage, another suitable for a Wi-Fi card
  • Ports: 4x DP ports, 2x Gigabit LAN ports, 3x USB 2.0, 1x USB 3.1 Type-C, 1x x RS232/422/485 header
  • Realtek ALC262 HD 4-channel audio
  • Mini-STX form factor measuring 147.3 x 139.7mm

The Sapphire FS-FP5V will be orderable direct. Pricing will vary depending upon choice of soldered processor: the AMD Ryzen Embedded V1202B model is the cheapest at $325, then the V1605B at $340, then the V1756B at $390, and finally the V1807B equipped board at $450. Shipments will begin later this month.

Previously we have seen the AMD Ryzen Embedded V1000 APUs chosen for at least two consumer facing devices; the Udoo Bolt 'maker board' and the Smach Z handheld PC.

Can't see that being used in a POS terminal at that price, unless the bulk discount is exceptionally deep. Quad 4K displays though, I suppose once you have paid for that many panels a few hundred dollars on top isn't that much.
This will be used for all those digital advertising boards, and fruit machines and quiz machines.

Nice to see a selection of tiny but powerful AMD boards though. I don't think the price here is too bad either.

I didn't realise that mini-STX also determined the front-IO layout. Cases are dirt cheap - https://www.scan.co.uk/products/silverstone-sst-vt01s-vital-mini-stx-silver?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4ePnmt2H3AIVxBXTCh1qvAxwEAQYAiABEgKJkfD_BwE
Yup this is designed for digital billboards and score screens. Think those crickets screens or the screens for VAR at sporting events
What's the point? They're designed for big systems which are hugely expensive anyway and probably have a long lifespan. Therefore, I'd have the space, budget and desire to have a modular system which can be upgraded to extend lifespan. You can't tell me a giant cricket scoreboard can't afford a standard PC case in terms of space and cost?

Larger case is harder to weather-proof?
