Hitachi announces 900GB Ultrastar 10,000 RPM drive

Having recently pushed out the first-ever line of 4TB internal hard drives for its Deskstar 5K Family, Hitachi has now announced the 10,000 RPM Ultrastar C10K900 HDD series.

Due to launch in Q1 2012, Hitachi’s new line of high-specification 2.5 inch hard disk drives will be available in four varieties: 300GB, 450GB, 600GB and 900GB. Among its features are: 64MB of cache to optimise the read/write response time, an SAS (Serial attached SCSI,) 6Gb/s interface, an average seek times of 3.8 milliseconds, an average latency of 3.0 ms, and an operating/idle power draw of 5.8/3.0 W.

Aimed at enterprise-class servers and networked storage arrays, the new drive will also offer bulk data encryption on specific models.

Although price has yet to be determined, the Ultrastar C10K900 hard drive will ship in limited quantities earlier next year. For further information, check out the press release.
