PRESS RELEASE

  • Although the European monitor market displayed the smallest development of the past eight consecutive quarters, it still has seen some growth at a rate of 4.1% in Q4/2017, with AOC and MMD together growing by 5.2% compared to the previous year.
  • AOC has shown a very strong growth and one of the highest increases in market shares in the last quarter with 15.4%. This represents an increase of almost four times that of the growth in the whole European market.
  • AOC and MMD, license partner for Philips monitors, have now grown for the eighth consecutive quarter and have continued to increase their market share compared to Q4/2016, despite declining markets in many countries.
  • Even with some shrinking markets, the overall market for monitors is still showing growth thanks to the appeal of the latest innovations, the contribution to greater productivity, of new larger and curved monitors as well as the widespread adoption of gaming monitors.

Amsterdam, 4 April 2018 – According to the latest figures from the analyst Context, the monitor market in the wider European region grew in the last quarter of 2017, from October to December only by 4.1%.

The growth of AOC and Philips large screen monitors is due to numerous feature innovations from both brands. AOC offers one of the largest and most comprehensive gaming ranges on the market which meets all gamers’ requirements, while Philips monitors has seen its main successes in intelligent solutions for the B2B market including features such as USB docking, pop-up webcams and also thanks to the new frameless B2B range.

AOC and MMD, license partner for Philips monitors, achieved a very good combined fourth quarter result of 14.9% of the market share with a slight increase compared to Q4/2016. AOC has increased its market share in Q4/2017 by 10.9% compared to Q4/2016 and has reached its best ever figures in sold units by a staggering 15.4% increase over the same quarter in last year.

“When it comes to design, ergonomics, picture quality, features, user-friendliness or environmental friendliness, we at AOC and MMD have been working towards being more innovative than ever; and this is reflected in our excellent growth figures. AOC has especially anticipated the growth of volume in the gaming sector and has increased its market presence immensely, which is reflected in the figures” says Stefan Sommer, Director Marketing & Business Management in Europe about the strong results.

In the competitive Western Europe market, AOC and MMD combined held its 3rd position in units sold in Q4/2017, a 14% increase compared to Q4/2016. The biggest contributor was the success of AOC with a whopping 24% increase in volume compared to Q4/2016. The increase in total market share of both brands is 8.2% from Q4/2016, with AOC again contributing with the largest increase in market share in the same period by 17.7%.

In Eastern Europe, the monitor market has shown the least growth in eight consecutive quarters with just 1% increase in volume. Despite being in a declining market, however, both brands continue to hold their combined number 1 position with their strong market share of over 20%.

The monitor market in the UK and Ireland region has stabilised and shown negligible growth. In Q4/2017, both brands together achieved a massive 20% increase in the volume of monitors sold compared to Q4/2016 and are maintaining their No. 3 position in the market place. AOC has increased its market share by almost 50%; it was 6.6% in Q4/2016 and 9.7% in Q4/2017.
