S3 Graphics Unveils AlphaChrome Discrete Graphics for
the Mobile Market

Fremont, California, 3 June 2002 - S3 Graphics, Inc.
today launched the AlphaChrome family of graphics subsystems for mission
critical, enterprise notebook solutions in discrete, memory integrated MCM/MPM
and Northbridge combined SMA trim featuring Commercial Grade quality and
reliability matched with latest 2D/3D performance.

S3 Graphics' AlphaChrome is currently moving into
pre-production phase with the perfect balance of next generation 3D performance,
ultra-low power and fully integrated mobile features. The new core boasts a
multi-pipeline, multi-texture 3D processing engine with 128-bit DDR memory
interface for demanding 3D applications. A 2-channel LVDS transmitter, CRT DAC
and TV-encoder rounds out the integrated display features to compliment the S3
Graphics' DuoView capability. Also included is S3 Graphics' 5th generation
Motion Compensation engine for picture perfect DVD playback.

"Our research show the market potential for mainstream
graphics in the notebook market will be in excess of 78 million units over the
next three years," said Dr. Jon Peddie, President of Jon Peddie Research, in
Tiburon, CA. "The new AlphaChrome 128-bit controller from S3 Graphics is an
ideal product for this price sensitive and feature demanding segment."

The new AlphaChrome core from S3 Graphics will not only
continue the tradition of top level graphics performance for the mission
critical, enterprise notebook market, it will also serve as the basis for
leading Northbridge combined SMA products for the value and mainstream notebook
segments. This product, the AlphaChrome333, is the third generation SMA product
provided for x86 architecture platforms. The S3 Graphics' AlphaChrome graphics
core combined with the VIA DDR333 chipset is the culmination of efforts by both
companies in a joint venture to provide the highest performance SMA product
available. The powerful combination of next generation graphics performance and
leading chipset technology will challenge mainstream discrete graphics
solutions.

"The traditional notions of SMA products as low
performance, value segment products will be rewritten as the AlphaChrome333 is
sampled this month," said Dr. Gerry Liu, VP of Marketing, S3 Graphics, Inc.
"Nothing was compromised for this SMA product. VIA's leadership in the DDR
chipset market plus our new graphics performance was compelling enough to our
customers even before considering our incredible Commercial Grade quality."

The AlphaChrome family of graphics processors builds on
the industry leading, quality levels attained over years of engagement with top
tier notebook manufacturers for commercial markets. The testing techniques and
rigid quality procedures honed at S3 Graphics resulted in current integrated
memory MCM graphics product defect levels averaging below 500 DPPM at the
customer's production line. This sets a new standard for quality by which all
graphics subsystem manufacturers will have to meet to be deemed 'Commercial
Grade'.

AlphaChrome graphics processors will be available in
ultra-low form factor discrete packaging as well as integrated memory MCMs and
MPMs. The smallest discrete packaging is 23x23 mm PBGA for 64-bit memory
interface and 27x27 mm PBGA for the full 128 bit interface. For integrated
memory products, the traditional MCM utilizing bare die memory products is
offered as well as the new MPM packaging technology employing chip-size-package
(CSP) memory products. Integrated memory sizes include 16, 32 and 64 MB.
