Remember when sleep states were a thing? I can recall marvelling at my PC when it nodded off after a period of inactivity only to wake up later in the day and pick up right where it left off. True, sleep and resume didn't always work in the early days, and leaving unsaved work was a big risk, but we've come a long way since then.

Today's PCs arguably don't need to go to sleep; they're more efficient than ever before and have no qualms about staying powered on for days on end. Heck, plenty of enthusiasts take pride in monitoring how long their rig has kept going without interruption.

What we want to know is how your habits have developed in regards to turning off your system when not in use. Perhaps you're worried about the leccy bills and prone to shutting down asap, or maybe you're at two years of non-stop power and counting. Either way, let us ask: do you shut down your PC? Let us know using the comments facility below.

Power down each and everyday. Save the trees people..
I tend to run my main PC 24/7 since the days of the Athlon CPU, only rebooting to do updates or solve a stuck GPU clock.
Yes, but mostly in the form of restarting due to updates.

Fully shutting down is more of a rarity, although it does still happen.
Every single time that I won't be using it again very soon. It'll go into “sleep mode” while out walking the dog or whatever.

It's all about saving the trees, and some money while I'm at it.
I shut down my ‘workstation/gaming PC’ every night. But I leave my file ‘server’ on all the time. :)
