Is it just me, or has AMD's latest graphics revamp - dubbed Graphics Core Next - arrived with a small pop as opposed to a loud bang?
The company's first 28nm architecture claims to have been "engineered to humiliate the competition," and true enough, the Radeon HD 7970 and HD 7950 top the charts as far as single-GPU performance is concerned, but nonetheless, it feels as though we're still waiting for something more.
Could it be the vaunted Radeon HD 7990? Possibly. Is it a 7000-series card that costs less than £300? Probably. Could it be the rival's retort? Perhaps. Or maybe we're just waiting for a killer PC title that's going to show off exactly what GCN is capable of.
But enough of what we think. What we really want to know is what do you, the consumers, make of AMD's first Radeon HD 7000-series products? Were you sold on 7970? Has the slightly cheaper 7950 broken your resistance? Are you sitting on the fence until you see what's coming from the green neck of the woods? Or are you holding out on this year's graphics refresh in anticipation of - dare we say it - a new breed of games consoles?
