Scan exclusively build the Isotope for ACON5

The Scan ACON5 Dream Machine!

Now we’re all well aware of those wonderful chaps up at Scan and all the PC lushness they provide but did you know that they’ll be providing some rather tasty kit for the ACON5 UK finals?

Oh yes, Scan are bringing 25 custom built PCs to Uttoxeter for the LAN party and ACON5 playoffs where the lucky winners will get an all expenses paid trip to China for the ACON5 world finals.

The Scan PCs are based on the “Isotope” chassis available exclusively from Scan and featured in HEXUS’ CeBIT coverage only a few weeks ago. I’ve been told that they’ll be coming out in a very special ACON5 livery, so as soon as we have the pictures, you’ll be able to see what they look like.

As we saw at CeBIT, the Isotope case is drum shaped, with popclips either side for access to the internals and is finished in steel, aluminium and Perspex. Again, as we reported at CeBIT, this case is exclusive to Scan, so check out www.scan.co.uk if you fancy getting your hands on one!

Of course, as well as being able to turn heads with your kit, you’ll want to be able to shoot heads in the game and the Scan ACON5 systems aren’t short of the kit to give you the edge there.

Built around the ABIT IG80 MicroATX motherboard, Scan have slapped in a CPU with some serious grunt in the form of an Intel P4 540J 3.2GHz. With 1Mb cache and an 800 MHz fsb, this chip has got the guts to keep play smooth and chop free, Especially when coupled with 1Gb of Corsair Twin-X XL PC3200 memory, the processing side of the system is going to fly!

For graphical oomph, Scan have opted for an ABIT RX700pro 128MB, which will ensure that the system delivers the high framerates required by the country’s top CS teams as they battle it out for a place in China.

Finally, the systems will each be running off a 250Gb Western Digital Serial ATA Hard-Drive and a Pioneer 109 DVD Writer, just so you know.

Here’s a shot of the internals of the CeBIT machine, so you can see what it will look like, but we expect some more details and hopefully a few benchies later today, if not in the very near future!

And if Scan contribution to ACON5 so far isn't enough for you, how about a little competition they're running where you can win an ABIT Fatal1ty AA8XE mainboard.

Just answer the ABSOLUTE doddle of a question and submit your details to go into the draw... And Scan aren't ahppy with just giving away one of these boards, they're doing the competition every week! Just point your browser to scan.co.uk and hit the competition link to enter.
