Introduction

Having more than a passing resemblance to an Ork, Nick Haywood is best placed to review Relic’s latest sci-fi fantasy fest.

For those of you not familiar with the Warhammer series, you’ve seriously missed out on something here. Though I can only claim to have dabbled in the pen and paper version of the game, I did get myself a few of the lead figures to paint as the whole fantasy character/mech thing appealed to me. The series made a successful, if understated, jump to the PC with turn based strategy games as far back as 1997 and has been chugging along very happily ever since.

This latest offering, Dawn of War, sees the series developed further and is clearly aimed at a more mass market appeal than the traditional and clichéd pale spotty youth with bottle base glasses.
