Introduction

ABIT Radeon 9800 XT 256MB Video Card

ATI's decision to use board partners has proved successful. NVIDIA showed it to be a good business model; ensure that as many different 'manufacturers' are seen to be making and distributing your GPUs. Seeing a whole range of, say, GeForce FX 5950 Ultra cards at your local PC World will look more impressive than a lone ATI-made card, especially if partners keep using vivid and garish colouring. We can think of a whole host of ATI AIBs (Add-In Board Partners). Sapphire (who make most of 'em), PowerColor, Connect3D, Hercules, ASUS, and Creative, to name but a few. ATI's after the bigger boys of the industry, so ASUS and Creative are incredibly important to the Canadians' market presence.

ATI's also wooed another regular NVIDIA partner. This time it's ABIT's turn; the company famed for over-the-top cooling solutions and non-standard graphics clocks. If anyone was going to distribute a radically different Radeon 9800 XT card from the rest of the homogeneous pack and save us from reference hell, we're sure it was ABIT. Let's take a closer peek.
