So, the next Chipset...

Intel wants to use the Grantsdale platform to help to increase consumer usage models, the idea of the Grantsdale which can help with the increase of adoption and usage in the digital home.

Intel already has the mobile, and software products. They want to bring Grantsdale to the Entertainment PC – the collision of PCI-Express, BTX, and the like. This chipset will be covered by the Intel stability program.

SIT is Stable Image Technology & the Corporate Stable Program - both of which are really popular with corporate & other buyers, this is a feature on Intel motherboards that masks chipset revision changes so the OS/driver image doesn't break when we rev the chipset.

Grantsdale is developed with the end user and consumer in mind, this is to drive demand.

Grantsdale Specification

- Next Generation Integrated Graphics (Grantsdale-G)
- LGA775 Socket
- HT
- 800/533MHz FSB - Currently.
- Alderwood – DT Performance
- Dual Channel DDR2-533 and DDR1
- 4 SATA Ports
- Raid 0, 1, 0 and 1
- Integrated Access Point (802.11a/b/h)
- 4 PCI Express x1 Lanes
- 8 Hi- Speed USB 2.0 Ports
- Intel High Definition Audio [Azalia]
- PCI-Expersss x16 Discrete Graphics

Alderwood does not have the integrated graphics, it has PCI-Express, DDR2, and Extreme Edition. It has a faster path to get memory bandwidth increase. Alderwood is PCI-Express only, AGP has no longer a place on Intel mainboards. There is legacy support within the platforms.

Due to the poor quality of the integrated graphics, more speed is needed to decode this software.

Alderwood will be the high end part, this is the 875P part, it has ECC support etc. The idea of the AP is that it will bring WiFi to every home – for roaming etc.

The set of Array mic’s [with beam forming – so it can pick out who is speaking through the software to help to reduce the noise].

The board will be running on a 6 layer solution; it will also have enhanced pipelining on the higher utilization of each channel, also they have rehashed the electrical structure on the memory ball out for a lowerlatency with bypass enabled too (to remove some of the delays) "PAT" style, this was 'overclocking' however with Alderwood and Grantsdale this won't be able.

Intel Graphics Specification:
- Direct X9 hardware, with mainstream gaming working on this platform
- PixelShader 2.0, 4 Pixel Pipes, DVMT for 128MB Memory
- VertexShader by CPU
- Optimized for media playback

Graphics auto syncs with what display is present – autodetect with the best screen image possible [resolution wise]. Full PS2.0 but not full DX9 hardware.

This will come with Dual independant display – similar to the ATi and NVIDIA solutions.

Audio Specification :
- 192kHz, 24 Bit 8 Channel Audio
- Supports all major consumer audio formats
- Auto sensing ports
- Multi Streaming – support for sending different audio to different devices

CSA network has gone, the PCI-E Gigabit however will be the new revised solution

The power feed to the board will be done via 2*12 port PSU slots, so yet again you will need to have a new PSU. This is on this pdf here (Chapter 4.1)
