By taking the best bits from a sub-laptop and a PDA and amalgamating them into one chassis, Tablet PCs should have become the ultimate mobility tool. But widespread acceptance has been held back by high cost - resulting from the need to incorporate a rotating, digitised screen.

Even so, a well-designed Tablet PC is a hugely practical tool.
