Noise and Conclusion

Noise

Although quiet running isn't a big selling point of these PSUs, during testing it appeared to be relatively quiet, thanks to its use of a 120mm fan spinning at a lower speed rather than an 80mm fan running faster as can be seen in many power supplies. It's by no means silent, but isn't bothersome in the noise stakes either.

Conclusion

Looking at the overall package available here, it's hard to fault Hitech's Type R offerings - A fantastic bundle coupled with a very nice looking and relatively lightweight power supply, all for a reasonable price. What is even nicer to see is the subtle yet understandable variety in the three packages we've seen here - For those who want a case full of LEDs, the red bundle offers both a red LED equipped PSU and fan. The black package offers a more reserved package without the LEDs, and the silver bundle offers yet another choice of PSU colour, as well as the addition of rounded IDE cables - If only they'd included a UK plug in the silver package too!

The only area where the Type R isn't so impressive is in the performance stakes, where it comes out looking somewhat average under load. Nothing too disastrous, but it may be enough to put off anyone expecting to laden their system to the brim with devices.

Aside from that however, the overall design and package on offer coupled with a plethora of Molex connectors for all your connectivity needs makes for a promising package.
