Dell and Wal-Mart tie up could make UK shores...eventually

Dell recently announced that they will start selling PC systems through the massive Wal-Mart chain in the US. With nearly 3,500 stores in the US and a further 1,000 spread across the globe Wal-Mart is not just a store in the US, but almost an institution.

Given that Michael Dell is quoted as stating that throughout the next several quarters Dell will be in Wal-Mart stores around the globe it won’t be long before you will be popping in your local Asda in the UK and walking out with a dual core system.

The initial offerings will be Dell Dimension 521 desktop systems, which won’t please Intel much, given that they only come in AMD flavours. Some might argue the cost aspect as to the reason why, the big question is though, will it be cheap enough?

Of course there are some luxuries in the deal that are unlikely to reach our shores, for example, in the US you will be able to buy one of these systems from June the 10th, with or without a 19” flat panel monitor. If anyone reading this has ever managed to buy a Dell system without a monitor let us know in the HEXUS.community as we think you will be a pretty rare breed round these parts.

Anyway, aside from carrot jokes it seems, from our perspective at least, that it’s not about if, but when these will be available in Asda stores in the UK. At least it might make the family shop that bit more interesting for the techies amongst us eh?
