Introduction

As the dust begins to settle over the explosive Core 2 Duo release from Intel, it's clear that this has now become the processor of choice for many. AMD is struggling to produce a comparable part and, despite its resort to price-slashing, there has been a major move over to the 'dark side'.

One significant factor, on top of Core 2 Duo's mind-boggling performance, is that Intel decided to retain compatibility with the socket format of its previous-generation processors.

That has, for once, made life easier for third-party vendors – many motherboards are compatible with Intel's new core with little, if any, modification.

With all this in mind, we felt it would be a good idea to see just how well third-party coolers for the Intel LGA775 socket worked. We began firing off emails to gather in review product but weren't quite ready for what happened next.

Like us, manufacturers were keen to see an in-depth group test. Very keen. As a result, we're not taking just a few coolers to the party. And not five nor 15 either. No, not us.

The response from manufacturers was overwhelming. We were sent a total of 25 coolers for some HEXUS labs action.

So this, ladies and gentlemen, is the largest HEXUS.net group review we have ever undertaken. Period. Now let's get started…
