Honours for releasing the world's first memory kit, optimised for the AMD AM2 platform, are claimed by OCZ Technology today.

The 4GB dual channel kit, consisting of two 2GB modules, runs at speeds of PC2-5400 (667MHz) and delivers timings of 5-5-5-15, with cooling coming courtesy of OCZ's Titanium XTC (Xtreme Thermal Convection) heatspreader solution which is touted as relieving the build up of heat, together with allowing for more effective heat dissipation through the honeycomb design implemented by the company.

The modules require an operating VDIMM of between 1.80 and 2.00V, however, as part of OCZ's EVP (Extended Voltage Protection) feature, allow a maximum VDIMM setting of 2.10V, without invalidating the lifetime warranty that OCZ provide.

Moving on, the kit is an AMD AM2 platform only SKU as the kit utilises, what OCZ states is, AMD's sophisticated DDR2 platform, allowing for an enhanced real world computing experience. With the 11 column address bit support within the memory controller of the AM2 platform, OCZ have crafted the modules to fully utilise this functionality, allowing for the memory controller to stay 'in page' twice as long, when compared to standard memory controllers. This delivers unparalleled performance according to OCZ, as the 11 column address bit support allows for the number of addresses in each row or page to be a maximum of 2048 individual entries, for a page size of 16kbit.

OCZ cite that the architecture of the modules, is well suited towards large CAD module processing, as well as memory intense application such as Adobe Photoshop.

And does the OS need to be aware of this extra addess space, or does it work natively?
That looks pretty cool, hopefully price decreases in a couple of months :)
