Samsung had its 30in 305T ultra-high resolution TFT monitor on display last year, designed to compete with Dell's 3007WFP. The 305T's wide colour gamut of 97%, 1000:1 contrast ratio and 6ms response time makes it, on paper, similar to the newer Dell 3007WFP-HC model released last month.

Samsung is upping the stakes at the high end by showcasing the XL30, a 30in model with an identical 2560x1600 resolution. However, it features LED backlighting for jaw-dropping colour reproduction that pushes up the colour gamut to an NTSC-busting 123%.

The panel also features native 14-bit processing, should inputs allow, but only caters for a DVI-D connection. It's also equipped with a professional hood to limit stray glaring, and has hardware calibration for fine-tuning.

The resolution and colour reproduction is sure to make it appeal to the professional market. No word on pricing or availability, unfortunately.

Just wondering how you can have 123% of ‘gamut’? There was me thinking it was a scale between 0 and 100?
