A new public beta version of the Windows Vista operating system, build 5728, is now available from this page but only for a limited time and with some limitations that might mean you'd want to steer clear and stick with RC1 build 5600.
According to Microsoft,
This build (5728) has a
number of improvements and updates from RC1, but has not been put
through the same internal testing process as RC1 and therefore may be
unstable in certain installations. We are making this release available
for a limited time only (and only by download) in order to get broad
distribution and testing in a variety of PC configurations.
Please note: This build may not have the same level of support or servicing via Windows Update, and you may not be able to upgrade to the final version of Windows Vista. The download takes the form of a 2.52GB .ISO file that you'll have to burn as a DVD. It can be downloaded directly or, as Microsoft advises, using the Akamai Download Manager - which is relatively painless but will involve installation of a small Java app..
If you've already been using a Vista beta, then your existing product key should work with build 5728.
