Introduction

Shuttle SB61G2R 20th Anniversary Special Edition XPC System

Limited Edition, Super Limited Edition, Very Special Super Limited Edition With A Cherry On Top. The hardware world seems to be littered with not just standard components that do their job but with numerous examples of special editions that go above and beyond the call of duty. Gainward is perhaps the biggest instigator of this kind of naming nomenclature. Its cards' names often take a whole line to write out correctly. What happened to the days when an FX 5900 was just that ? and not a Turbo Super Patch Hyper Transmogrifying Ultra Edition ?.

OK, so that's poking fun at some firms' attempts to make their products appear to be better than the competitions'. Shuttle, probably known to most of you as the company that put small form-factor systems on the map, is celebrating 20 years in the business. That makes it an old hand in computing terms. Its range of XPC systems have steadily gotten better over time. Shuttle thought that its 20th anniversary was a just and fit time to introduce a revised Intel-based SFF system that amalgamated all the best bits from the various cubes that have come before. We've often lamented how one XPC has this neat feature and another contains that useful value-adding extra. What we've yet to say, and we've cast our critical eye over many, is that one XPC stood head and shoulders above the rest.

It seems as if Shuttle has heard our plea. There's a new XPC in town. Appropriately named the SB61G2R 20th Anniversary Edition, it seeks to appeal to a wide an audience as possible. It even has a couple of individual traits not seen before in the XPC lineup. It's time to get down and dirty with what promises to be the must-have cutesy of 2003.
