It was reported on Monday that ASUS may have been looking to merge with Gigabyte. Following up on that story, we've spooned out a few more beans. They may not be merging in the strictest sense of the word, but we can tell you that a new company is going to be formed by the two Taiwanese giants. It'll be set up with motherboard and VGA divisions. ASUSTek will invest in the new company to improve quality, sales, customer service, and, of course, profitability.

The new company will have a capital value of 80Billion NT (about Ā£1.4bn). This will all happen in January 2007, according to our sauces. ASUS will have 49% shareholding in the new company, and Gigabyte will have, wait for it, 51%. Interesting, huh?

More as we get it.
