Extreme graphics cards have been all the talk in recent weeks, but while all this hoo-ha over 4K gaming is fun, it's ultimately further down the graphics hierarchy that the bulk of the action takes place.

So for the latest installment of our Question Of The Week, we're looking past the likes of the GTX Titan and the R9 290X, and we're asking: which graphics card(s) would you buy on a £300 budget?

That's roughly $400 (plus tax) for our friends across the pond, or €350 on the continent. And before you jump to your conclusions, don't forget to take into account CrossFire or SLI combinations, as well as all of the relevant bundles on offer today, including AMD's Never Settle and Nvidia's Holiday Bundle.

Let's hear it: you've got £300 to play with, and think of it as a non-cashable voucher, so you're not allowed to buy an HD 5450 and keep the change - we want you to get as close to the target price as possible. As always, post your answers using the comments facility below.

Can't do £300, I would have to pay the extra and bag a 780 or the R290 that looks to be hitting the £350 mark.
I certainly wouldn't presume to give buying advice on £300 cards, as I know naff-all about them.

From my own money, there's no way I'd spend anything like £300. Not unless I was buying 3 cards, maybe 4, for that.

If given the voucher, I'd rather sell it. But if forced, at gunpoint, to spend a £300 voucher on a card, I'd ask on here what the best card for that money is …. then sell the card. ;)

Sorry if that's not helpful, but I just have no use for and zero personal interest in high end cards.

Put it this way. If given a £300 card that I wasn't allowed to sell, I'd probably stick it on a shelf and forget about it. I certainly don't see any point in me wasting time and effort installing it.

And no, I'm not kidding, or exaggerating.
I guess I would buy a 280X and Xfire it with my 7970.
