AMD/ATI merger likely, asserts analyst

That's the case if you place stock in one analyst's view.

RBC's Apjit Walia reckons it would be a good move for the graphics-card market, but we're not so sure.

It would have drastic effect on the current status quo, and might push the mighty Chipzilla, Intel, into devouring NVIDIA's stock.

If this happened, you can see Ati cards being ‘tuned’ to give better performance with AMD processors. This would be bad news to people like me who like nVidia and AMD, and probably bad news for the industry as it would force nVidia to team up with Intel to get the performance back, and then PC architecutre would start dividing in two…

I've got my fingers crossed this goes nowhere.

I doubt it will happen… You never know though. A lot of people doubted the Dell Alienware merger, however, this is a significantly different situation.
