HEXUS.sharewatch

Good news everyone. Yes, HEXUS.sharewatch is here, but better still, there's a little bit of green on our .sharewatch table this week. Last week wasn't too good for the NASDAQ and other markets as a whole, although some companies suffered beyond that, NVIDIA in particular. Last week there was concern that NVIDIA wouldn't be able to maintain its growth, so let's see if things have settled down this week.

Company Listing Share Price ($US) 7-day change
AMD AMD 31.18 1.3%
Apple AAPL 63.34 -2.9%
ATI Technologies ATYT 15.30 -5.0%
Dell DELL 24.18 2.3%
Google GOOG 381.25 1.8%
IBM IBM 79.78 -1.8%
Intel INTC 17.89 -4.1%
Microsoft MSFT 23.50 3.4%
NVIDIA NVDA 24.05 -3.6%

Starting at the top, you may have noticed AMD launching a new line of CPUs this week. AM2 brings a new pinout and DDR2 support. Aside from that, however, it's still good old K8, and while that no doubt made the transition easier for AMD it does mean there are no stellar performance boosts. With Conroe around the corner, AMD might not be able to bask in the glory of AM2 for long. Still, it's AMD's style to take it steady and not make a heap of changes at once, and it's worked for them in the past, so there should still be confidence in AMD from all parties.

Apple's shares dropped somewhat at the end of Thursday, flucutuating around the same region since then. As of last week, all of Apple's new notebooks are now Intel-based. This week, Apple announced a partnership with Nike. With two globally recognised brands, some believe it could spell more revenue for both companies.

ATI keep singing about their graphics driver support for Vista. How many people actually care right now, with the OS (at least) months away, isn't clear. Nevertheless, it'll be welcomed by beta testers. They've been at WinHEC this week showing their support for Vista, but despite this they are down on this time last week.

Dell's promises to turn things around may be one of the reasons for their share price increase. We wonder how many AMD fan boys decided to invest in the company this week. We think none.

Moving on to Intel, and despite announcing the release of Woodcrest next month, shares are down. They also started shipping a handful of new Dempsey Xeons, but they're late, and with Woodcrest around the corner, purchasers might not bother with them.

Microsoft have had a good week. They've teamed up with MTV and together will bring music downloads (only through WMP11) to PCs; their answer to iTunes. They've also held WinHEC this week. A new Vista beta is available to subscribing developers and in the not too distant future, others should be able to test it out too. The end result of Microsoft telling everybody how good Vista is? 3.4%.

NVIDIA is still down on last week, but the loss is much smaller than during the previous week. This is thanks in part to AMD. With the launch of AM2, so too came new core logic from NVIDIA. Indeed, come Tuesday, NVIDIA's shares jumped up a little from the previous day.

Even with a few big announcements and launches this week, we see no horrors (or joys) in the weekly share prices we keep an eye on. But with money, boring is good, right?
