It's abundantly clear that Conroe will be the fastest CPU in town when
it hits in a few weeks' time. It pulverises all present CPUs in the
majority of CPU-based benchmarks. Just take a look at the Far Cry
(speed) scores!
Take another look and let the numbers sink in.
If it's all too much for you, we've added another table that shows the
Conroe E6700 CPU's performance against the AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 and
Intel Pentium Extreme Edition 965 CPUs, expressed as percentages.

* - Willy offers his thanks to forumite mxyztplk with his/her help in
producing the correct percentages.
If this were boxing, the Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 would be Lennox Lewis,
the Athlon 64 FX-62 Bernard Hopkins and the Intel Presler E.E 965 Ricky
Hatton. They all punch their weight, but some punch a lot heavier than
others.
There's no real need for a summary. The benchmarks tell all. Intel's
Conroe simply outmuscles every currently available CPU. Would
you
buy an AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 now? AMD must be thinking that K8-L can't
come soon enough.
A little bird also tells us that the Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme Edition
may well debut with a 3GHz clockspeed. Just imagine that. Gentlemen and
ladies, start your salivating.
Were you one of the Conroe doubters? Still not convinced? Either way,
how do you think AMD is going to respond? Lots to talk
about over
in the
HEXUS.community,
we reckon.

At HEXUS, we invite the companies whose products we test to
comment on our
articles. If AMD's representatives choose to do so,
we'll publish their commentary here verbatim.

I'll be honest with you, nobody cares about your Mac ramblings.. Nobody with a gram (0.0352 ounce) of gray matter would lock themselves into 1 hardware/software platform from which they have no return, and don't even own their own computer and pay way over the head for the 'privilage' of not doing so and the only freedom you have with it is doing nothing. It seems to me that you're trying desperatly hard to convince yourself that you made the right choice.
I thought this was a sub-branch of the HEXUS.opinions forum.. hence he is very free to give his opinion about macs just as you are about linux :p
Since Macs went intel they have thankfully broken free of the 1 hardware/software platform, as you can now buy a mac and then run mac OS, windows or Linux all from the same machine.
Vista is a standalone, however it's a commonish joke that it's not much more than service pack 3 for xp, as they have dropped a lot of the major features such as winFS from the original plans. There are still many things that Vista is doing that are new and great compared to XP, such as finally having decent limited privaledges handling, something *nix has been great at for decades, and one of the main reasons I'm probably going to swap. It's also a 64bit OS that will finally drive widespread use of 64bit code. However it still won't be fully taking advantage of dual cores, and winFS really was going to be a killer feature :(Quote
As illustrated, might I say, in the recent HEXUS.liftestyle reviews of the Mac mini (http://lifestyle.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=5900) and Boot Camp (http://lifestyle.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=5314).
Oh, and I'd like to think that I still have sufficient grey matter to seriously consider Mac hardware now that it can easily switch between OS X and XP.
Certainly, I've got enough not to make uniformed comments about others' intentions to do so.Quote
