Benchmarks - 3DMark 01 and 03
Futuremark 3D Mark
Although 3D Mark 2001 has now been joined by the new 2003 version, we have included it in our review so that the Ti4200, which does not support DX9, can be fairly evaluated. The results clearly show that the Radeon 9500 pro rules the test in the higher resolutions. What was very surprising was the fact that the new FX5600 was well behind the Ti4200. Has DX9 support and the claimed better image quality been at the expense of DX8 performance? – It would seem so.
Looking at the budget cards we see that the FX5200 is putting down a real challenge with performance well ahead of the Radeon 9000.
Things change quite dramatically when we look at 3D Mark 2003. The new FX cards both show how support for DX9 is vital to achieve decent scores in this test. The Ti4200, with only DX8.1 support is compared unfairly.
Again the performance of the FX5200 stands out. If this is truly a sub $100 graphics card things are looking up for budget gamers
