ATI is bringing its X1600XT pricing into line with NVIDIA's 7600GS here in the UK, making it the more appealing option, they reckon.
Come the end of the week, most e-tailers will be selling the X1600XT at around £105 inc VAT, which does indeed seem to level it with the 7600GS. In the performance stakes, ATI reckon their card can beat the GS at just about everything when running at 1280x1024, with 4xAA and 16xAF, although whether the framerates on a system housing such a card will be satisfactory may be another issue.
We all know it's not the high-end where all the sales happen, and the £100 mark is a good spot to have a card faster than one's opponent. Of course, it's only a matter of time before somebody drops a new SKU in that is priced slightly lower/higher and runs slightly slower/faster, such is the world of graphics cards.
