ECS H70 ultraportable tablet PC

Walking through the mass of halls that is CeBIT, you quickly realise the need for an ultra-lightweight PC, so it was refreshing to discover that ECS has teamed up with Intel to create what it reckons is the mobile warrior's dream.

ECS's H70 tablet PC weighs just 830g and features a 7in WVGA (800x480) wide-aspect touchscreen that's best-used with the supplied stylus pen. A built-in 4-in-1 card reader, integrated 1.3MP camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, high-definition audio, along with a couple of USB2.0 ports, makes it a feature-rich. A bundled docking station includes the usual ports that are omitted on the H70 for space-saving reasons.

It will be possible to specify the H70 with an Intel Pentium M ULV (Ultra-Low Voltage) 1GHz CPU and up to 1GB DDR2 RAM. A 60GB 1.8-inch hard drive (maximum size) provides plenty of storage, too.

The H70 is an interesting bridge between a PDA and medium-sized notebook. It should be available from Q2 2006 and, although pricing is yet to be determined, yours truly is one potential customer.

hmm is it actually running tablet PC edition?

The screen dosen't look exactly like a tablet PC one normally does, it looks like a regular touch screen rather than a tablet input screen.
That ones got decent specs by the look of it.

Pentium M 1Ghz - must be pretty nippy.

EDIT - just looked at the piccy and it says Celeron M :(

I like the idea of these UMPC's but I've very spectical as to whether they will be a success.
If that's a Celeron M, the battery life'll be dog-poo by comparison to a P-M. You'd really need a P-M to make it a practical device, and that'd be pricey.
The model on show is a working prototype.

The official specs show that it does take a Pentium M CPU.

It also supports Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, and the touch panel will definitely be a tablet input screen, according to ECS.
