ATI Mobility Radeon X1800 XT in the flesh

Just a day after ATI's announcement of its fastest-ever mobile graphics SKU, the folks over at Clevo Technologies have amalgamated it into a desktop-replacement laptop.

The M570U chassis features a 17-inch widescreen LCD screen, up to 2GB of system RAM, and is based on Intel's i945PM platform, so support for the impressive range of Intel Core Duo CPUs is a given.

The modular nature of mobile modern graphics GPU designs has allowed Clevo to outfit it with either MR ATI Radeon X1600 or ATI Mobility Radeon X1800 XT cards. There's enough space for a second SATA hard drive and a TV Tuner card can be added at the time of purchase. The chassis measures in at 397mm x 294mm x 44mm (max), thereby making it one of the slimmer DTRs around, too.

Literature contends that the base weight for the M570U laptop, outfitted with an 8-cell battery, is 3.8kg, making it one of the more portable desktop-replacement laptops around.

You can see some initial numbers from the ATI Mobility Radeon X1800 XT card right over here, and if the pre-production sample was representative of the performance of shipping models, Clevo and its partners has a winner on its hands.

rockdirect, on the UK's premier notebook specialists, has already launched its own laptop based on the Clevo chassis and ATI's latest high-end mobile graphics SKU. The Xtreme CTX can be outfitted with an Intel Core Duo T2600 CPU, up to 2GB of system RAM, and, importantly, a 17-inch WUXGA panel, needed in order to make the most out of the graphic card's abilities.
