With Intel flashing Viiv branding around it was only a matter of time before a big SFF manufacturer like Shuttle would pick up the brand and run with it, and so they have.

Shuttle has announced two new XPCs, one for AMD processors and the other for Intel, the Intel model carrying Viiv branding. Both are built on the tried and tested G5 chassis (if it ain't broke...) so there's nothing ground breaking or shocking about the size of these units. The AMD system, named SN21G5, features Nvidia's nForce 410 MCP and on-board GeForce 6100. Shuttle are pushing it at use as a compact family PC, and its PEG slot gives it the expandability to become a gaming machine too.

The SD36G5M Viiv ready machine is geared towards, as you might expect, multimedia experience. At the front is a very nice looking display panel, much like you might get on a Hi-fi or indeed other HTPC/media center computers these days. You'll find the Intel 945G + ICH7-DH chipset sat on the motherboard along with Intel's GMA 950 graphics.

This isn't a product launch to have us gasping in awe, but it will be interesting to see how Shuttle's stab at a Viiv ready PC turns out. These XPCs will be available in three to four weeks, depending on your local market, say Shuttle.

It's a shame about the SN21G5; I thought that Shuttle might have used the 6150 GPU + 430 MCP…..

Also, there is only one coaxial digital S/PDIF on the rear of the SN21G5, but there is a coaxial digital S/PDIF, plus two optical on the SD36G5M.

Personally, I’m a bit disappointed Looks like Shuttle have made a an effort for Intel, with Viiv in the SD36G5M, but to me, the SN21G5 just looks like a SN25P, in a G5 case, except for the inclusion of a PCI port, instead on a PCI-E x1 port….

Edit: Another thing that i've just noticed, (now i've had my coffee….), where's the Gigabit Ethernet?
Quite. Their AMD offering seems underwhelming, although the Intel one is at least something new… to a degree.
