Speaking exclusively to HEXUS, eBuyer one of the UK's home-grown etailers, has confirmed its intention to close the doors on its US business activities.

Apparently its staff in the US were informed of this decision several weeks ago.

It's reasonable to presume that if eBuyer's US operation was the cash cow it had originally hoped it to be, then there would have been no need to take this action.

Since eBuyer's fairly recent change of ownership, the company seems to have been taking steps towards positively addressing fairly widespread concerns about the way its original management handled customer care and technical support.

A welcome change of focus in our view, and – in the internet age, where manufacturers and retailers can’t easily hide customer complaints behind the desks of magazine publishers – we think this is very key to the long-term survival of retailers.

Which leaves us wondering, whether US buyers are less sensitive about standards of after-sales service than us here in the UK? .

If you are, or have been, a customer of e-Buyer, then it would be helpful if you’d share your valuable feedback with others here on the TRUST.HEXUS.net retailer feedback resource.

Currently eBuyer are ranked third at TRUST.HEXUS.net , with SCAN Computers still leading the pack.

eBuyer will shortly release a statement to clarify the reasons for its decision, and we'll post an update here in due course in the meantime let us know your thoughts here in HEXUS.community.

TBH they should sod off to america and close the UK arm, theyre a bunch of amateurs, cheap prices, but it appears that means they cant afford any actual staff to answer their phones or tech queries.
I had to double take the headline as I thought it read “eBay set to withdraw from the US market”.

Now this is big news, but that would have been bigger still
I dont know how they thought they compete against the likes of Newegg who managed to combine great prices AND great customer support.

Saying that, what ever happened about Newegg opening over here, which was announced ages ago (albeit on another site).

Lol, exactly the same here. :D
Someone at work visited Ebuyer yesterday, as we work pretty closely with them. By all accounts they are sinking a boatload of money into the UK operation, which should help them correct their defficiencies.
